Subject: The Christos-Sophia Prayer
Hi folks,
Brother Jeremy Puma of the Order of Allogenes (among other things)
posted a simple little prayer on his blog today that I thought you
might like to adopt in your own practice.
The Eastern Orthodox tradition has a short prayer designed for quiet
repetition often called The Jesus Prayer (sometimes, I think, also
the Prayer of the Heart):
Lord Jesus Christ, Have Mercy
The practice is simple: you simply repeat that prayer over and over
praying as earnestly as you can from the heart.
It's a lovely prayer, but for people who haven't come to the Gnostic
tradition from a very Christian background, it can "chafe" a little.
Brother Jeremy posts:
> Over the past few weeks I've been spending time trying to come up
> with my own Jesus Prayer style prayer. Something that reflects my
> own spiritual approach. [...] Here it is:
>
> Jesus Christ fill me with Compassion, Holy Sophia bring me Wisdom
>
> This is simple enough to be used in a similar fashion to the
> Orthodox Jesus Prayer yet is reflective enough of my own focus on
> Compassion and Wisdom to make it personal. I think I'll call it the
> Christos-Sophia Prayer.
Please enjoy.
